International week of Families.

International Day of Families focuses on the role of families and family-oriented policies in promoting education and overall well-being of their members. … International Families Day is Monday 15 May – we have been focusing on this in our Program and continue the learning journey with the children, and celebrating family diversity and culture.

International Day of families promotes inclusiveness, establishing positive family bonds and we have been encouraging the children to reflect upon their families, we have had discussions with the children in terms of what fun activities they like to do with their families, educators too have been discussing their families as well, which is a great way for the children to understand our family culture.

This week the children at Oosh have been completing their family trees, they have also drawn illustrations of their parents and siblings, I have also gotten the children to complete a “All about me” chart, so the children can also reflect upon their likes and dislikes, as a way of self reflection as well.

Learning Outcome: 2 children are connected with and contribute to their world, 2.1- children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.
