World Ocean Day

On Monday the 8th, it was World Ocean Day. This is celebrated and recognized all over the world, to remind everyone about our beautiful oceans, all around the world.

In small groups, we made some great ocean puppets and creations of the beach. During this, we reflected on how especially lucky we are to have the ocean, so so close to our OOSH.

We spoke about the different ways to protect our ocean. Oliver said, “We need to make sure all of our rubbish goes in the bin, because we are so close and it could fly over the fence and into the ocean.” James said, “To stop polluting the ocean with rubbish and chemicals.”

Using different coloured paper, decorations and creativity the group made some great looking fish puppets and beaches, inspired by World Ocean Day. This activity involved cutting, pasting, creativity, drawing and colouring, which are all different ways to enhance children’s fine motor skills, through play.

We had such a great time creating some fun things while learning and speaking about something so important – Our Environment.

Learning Outcome: 2.4 Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment.
