Shaving cream painting.

Shaving cream is a lovely sensory experience, it allows children to use their hands to feel through the light and soft textures. On Monday the educators set up an exciting shaving cream painting experience.

the children were given a small tray, and on the tray they had a chance to spray shaving cream on it, with the assistance of their educators, they were then encouraged to apply a choice of different food coloring colours, using a paddle pop stick they were encouraged to swirl the food coloring and shaving cream to any patterns they wished, then using a sheet of paper they placed the paper onto the tray and peeling it off, leaving the swirl mark onto the paper.

Paper is primarily composed of cellulose (a hydrophilic substance). When you place paper on top of the shaving cream and the colored pattern, the food coloring is attracted to the paper, causing the colored pattern to transfer permanently to the paper.

The children had full creative self expression in this experience so it was great to see the children were not shy show their creative artistic efforts.
