The children have been engaging in experiences that are involving experimentation and curiosity, as part of our theme in Science the children have made wonder Lava lamps using materials such as clear plastic cups, oil, water, food coloring and Asprin.
The children gathered around the craft table with educator Amy as she demonstrated what we were making and what essential materials were required, the children listened and followed as instructed.
They went around the table pouring in the oil first, then water, then the children added a couple of drops of food coloring of choice, then with an asprin each of the children added it to the ingredients and watched the mixture react to create a wonderful Lava, the children enjoyed the experience and choose more Asprins so they can watch it react once more.
The children then moved on to creating a Helium balloon, this experiment required a plastic bottle, vinegar, baking soda, and of course a balloon, The children watched on as they saw Educator Natalia add all the ingredients together, i asked the children what they thought would happen and most of the children thought that the balloon would blow up completely, and other’s thought the experiment wouldn’t work, so we gave it a go, and we watched in amazement as the balloon was actually starting to blow up, slowly but surely.
