Over the last week, we have been focusing on the shared histories of our home and the many different cultures that make up our wonderful country. National Reconciliation Week occurs in Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. It started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993, this then became NRW in 2000 and is now reflected each year, with a theme.
Last week, the boys had a look at the Reconciliation Australia website to find out what this years theme would be, which they discovered was, “In This Together”
Together, we reflected on what “In this together” meant to them. Oliver said, “It means to be supported or to support someone” Hamilton said, “It means to not be alone” and James said, “That we are all together, trying to help each-other.”
The boys got really involved with this topic and researching it. After looking at some Indigenous artworks, we listened to some traditional indigenous music while creating our, In this together sign for National Reconciliation Week 2020 that is now on display.
Learning Outcome: 2.1 Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.
